Any Rails companies that allow 4-day weeks?

My current employer won't entertain a 4-day week, so I've figured I'll be handing my notice in soon.

It's something I've determined that I require in order to continue working in this field, long term. Coding for 5-days a week isn't sustainable, or conducive to a healthy lifestyle (for me, anyway), no matter how many stretches and eye breaks I take.

If anyone knows of any firms hiring UK based Rails devs (4YoE) at the moment, please let me know!

  2. Are you looking for a four day, 10 hour day schedule? Why not get a remote gig and clear a day from meetings?

  3. In my career the one time I was able to work 4 days a week was a few years when I worked as a contractor, not an employee. As a contractor you can set your own hours.

  4. My company, CG Cookie has been on a four day work week, 32 hours/week for the last 5-7 years. It started as an experiment and we aren’t going back. We employ several Rails devs and I’ll be hiring another mid-level dev (with strong front end skills) in the next month or two.

  5. I’ve had success in the past with basically popping this question on my employer after a year or so of full time work. Once they know you’re good and there’s a level of trust, if they aren’t a dick and you propose 20% less work for 20% less pay hopefully they’ll accept that.

I’m 8mos into my new role and about to try this 🙂

There are some companies who do full pay with 4 day weeks though.
