So one Person wants to buy my Extension….

Him:
I like your Auto Swiper Chrome Extension and I would like to buy it from you, How much can you sell it for?

Me:
Make me a offer:

Him:
I was able to get the code by a tool, but I see that you deserve to get paid for your work. I also can't guarantee 100% that you will not use the extension again and abide by the selling terms.

Keep in mind that I will probably need updates and bug fixes that I will ask you to work on in the future for an additional price.

Therefore, I am offering a $50 one time fee OR $5/month for as long as I am using it and need you to abide by the terms.

Me:
Well just i make it clear. You are absolutely not allowed to take my Code! It is my Property and my hard work!

So you want also updates from me? Are you really talking about buying the App or just want me to make Updates as you wish?

Anyway my Pay per Hour is 185.- CHF so to buy my App it woul be more about in the Region of 10k up words.

With a 5.- per month you could get a Pro Version of it with some more Additions where the free Version get less.

Him:
I didn't mean to insult you, but you are asking 10k for something that you already have on Chrome for free. I don't understand you. You are not making money out of that extension so why not sell it for any amount?!

I don't mean to be mean, but I think if Chrome allows for getting the code, then it is probably an open source.

Once again, I don't mean to be rude but I am talking about what I am seeing.

If you are still willing to negotiate a price around what I offered, then I will be more than happy to discuss it with you.

WTF is going on whit this People? Just because you can look into the Code (Obfuscated) it is not "Open Source" free to copy, change and use it for your own Software.

  1. When they say buy the app from you do they mean they will own the code and rights to the app or they just want to use the app themselves? If it’s the former then yes their price and terms are ridiculous.

But hey, on the bright side this might be a positive sign that your extension is valuable and people might pay for it.

You might look into [ExtensionPay](https://extensionpay.com) for adding paid features to your extension.

  2. You will find this github discussion very interesting https://github.com/extesy/hoverzoom/discussions/670

This is a very common sales pitch by people who try and buy **popular** chrome extensions from devs. First they try to low-ball, then they will offer some kind of cut of the profits to sell your user’s data.

Let’s be clear. They want it because it’s popular, or they predict it could become popular very soon. The value is not in the idea, it’s that you have the user numbers. Those numbers are the intrinsic value. Perhaps you don’t want to sell it because you value your user’s privacy. Something you can’t guarantee when you hand that data over to some rando third party. Or why would you hand your hard work over to someone who will then effortlessly make money from it? Of course they can copy, but once again, they don’t have your existing community, so their copy is worthless.

  3. I offer you 1 cent. Hey, hey, calm down, I’m not being rude. I’m giving you more money than what you currently have (and also making sure that you can’t sell it for more than that in the future, because I’ll own it, also I already own it because I downloaded your code). Bro, I’m just trying to be nice! Alright, fine, 2 cents. That’s the final offer.
