  1. Just don’t search for ‘black owned’ and you get what you want, and people who want to search for black owned will get the result they want by typing that.

  2. Also you don’t need to imply your not racist by stating what you said. That is what the extremist want. You viewpoint is exact opposite of racism. What google is doing is actually racist.

  3. Yup. Typical liberals. “Lets condemn racism! – by means of segregation and basing everything on race”. So so dumb.
OP, look at it as a reminder to uninstall Chrome once and for all…

  4. Possible Solutions:
\- AdBlock doesn’t work as its an internal page: [https://help.getadblock.com/support/solutions/articles/6000188231-why-doesn-t-adblock-work-on-the-new-tab-and-other-internal-browser-pages-](https://help.getadblock.com/support/solutions/articles/6000188231-why-doesn-t-adblock-work-on-the-new-tab-and-other-internal-browser-pages-)
\- Change the new tab page (or make a dupe of the original html page, store it locally, set new tab to that page & omit the trash)
\- There are other chromium based browsers out there (majority of which that don’t shove bs down your throat).
\^ As a Mac user, this was “the straw that broke the camels back”. Peace out Google – may you return to the greatness you once were. For now, I gotta DuckDuckGo 🙂

  5. Good on Google for creating with feature. They continue to do such great work, even when the cameras are off. I think small businesses in general owe Google a lot of gratitude. Without Google Docs alone, I’m not sure where I would be!!!!

  6. What a world we live in when you have to qualify that you’re “not a racist” because you don’t want to select a business based on the skin color of the owners.

  7. I am certain that this feature will be abused for SEO very very soon. Case in point, when I click the link, I get a lot of business’s that are not in fact owned by black people. All of them on the first 2 pages actually. This makes sense as I think there are <10 black people in my town. I notice on a lot of the results it says "Website mentioned black owned." Idk how google is getting this data, but it is not accurate, and it looks like if you add that to even a comment section of a google review it will bump their ratings for at least this search. Who knows if it effects normal SEO or not.

Oh and the BLM office is the number 2 spot on my result. The Bureau of Land Management every person that works at the local office is white. Walmart is number 3, they at least used to have a black manager, he doesn't work there anymore though.

  8. I agree, I am not sure what the deal is with all this stuff this last year. There has to be a limit to what politically correct controls in our world. I have to say if I was a black person I would be offended. But that’s just me and I am white. How do I know if what I just said is racist? Why should I have to worry all the time about it? People are going to offend people with the things they say. It is just life. Perfect is not all it is cracked up to be.

  9. i also seen this, and as a mexican i tried “latin owned” and “mexican owned”, no results. i tried “white owned”, no results, “asian owned”, no results….this is stupid and id also like to remove this feature because it in and of itself is racist

  10. So glad we went from “racists only shop at some stores because skin color” to big tech sponsored “shop at these businesses, because skin color”.

    Google, you are textbook racist.

  11. This is literally racism coming from Google… Do they not understand how this is f\*cked up? I believe in equality. This ain’t it…

  12. They are trying so so hard to be woke…and it’s going to backfire. They aren’t curing any racist, they are just irritating people to the point they could become racist. That’s what happens when this is all you see. I turned my TV on yesterday and saw “Black Messiah” on the Roku, then went to Netflix and Amazon Prime and it’s nothing but “Black history month” “Strong black lead” “Movies with a black director” “Black this, black that.” None of that makes racists non-racist, but it could turn people who are sick of it into one.

  13. I was kind of amused when I saw it, but.. why do you think you have to click it? If having the word black at the bottom of your page offends you so much, maybe use a different search engine? It doesn’t show up if you use a different engine.

  14. It’s normal to prefer your own race over another, despite all the bull. If you do have a way to remove this obvious misjudgement on Goggles part please post

  15. It’s now on edge as well, All of you instead of playing racial cards why can’t you put enough energy into a solution for people who don’t want this added to there menus.

  18. Uber and other businesses are doing this as well. I find it to be absolutely ridiculous because everything in life is a meritocracy or we simply can’t evolve. I live in New Orleans where, as a white man, I am a minority. I’d say over half of my favorite restaurants are owned by African Americans but it’s cause they’re delicious, NOT cause they’re black. So insane that we’re here.

  19. I can back this. I mean, im not racist, it just a little weird google put this up. The qaulity of services doesn’t change because of your race, just how hard you work

  20. When I saw this I was wondering how no one saw the irony in this. I’m all for supporting a business that I like, but race doesn’t play a role in that. Don’t we see the hypocrisy in this? Let’s NOT label people based on their race, but let’s ID all black owned businesses like they’re in a Ghetto.

  21. Its not Chrome, its [www.google.com](https://www.google.com) is the issue..

Considering I am Jewish, I’d be terrified if they put a “Jewish-owned stores” there, as it brings back memories of the Holocaust and the “Don’t Buy From the Jews”..

The whole idea of labelling businesses by the race/ethnicity/skin color of their owners is sickening to me and I have a hard time thinking it will break racial barriers and promote racial harmony.

ANd, how is it not “RACE-ist” to label a stop “Black Owned”. If they put “White Owned” is that suddenly racist?

Reminds me a little of Jim Crow era labelling.. White areas/Black areas.. I feel we are going backward.

  22. Obligatory “not a racist”, but I don’t WANT to constantly have things shoved in my face forcing me think about racial/racist crap 24/7. I’m not interested in the least if a place is black owned or not and I sure won’t go out of my way to patronize places that are … and you want to know why? BECAUSE GOOGLE WANTS ME TO AND F’K THAT.

    Is Google making me racist?

  23. I posted about this with the photo on twitter also. Like what does it matter? But can you imagine if it said a WHITE owned business? Just think about that for a minute. It would be a headline on CNN for 2 days straight.

  24. “Shop by your preferred race”. An unspeakably racist, stupid, hypocritical, and dangerous precedent to set. At this point, it’s hard to not think their goal is division and escalation.

  25. I made a Chrome extension to disable Google Doodles, and these ever increasing ads – because let’s be real, that’s what this link that you mention really is – an advertisement for shops under the pretense of “wokeness” – and its too distracting for me to be looking at this stuff every time I open a tab. They’re already making money off of our data, and now they want to distract us ads? Its completely ridiculous.

The plugin is really simple, it just opens a blank page for each new tab. You use the url bar to search. If you are interested, I can upload this for you.

So what is this “BLACK OWNED BUSINESS” business? Racism? LOL!! People REALLY need to STOP dividing the people in this Country…….

  30. Either:
A.) Get a new tab extension for chrome: [https://lifehacker.com/the-15-best-new-tab-extensions-for-google-chrome-fans-1832040696](https://lifehacker.com/the-15-best-new-tab-extensions-for-google-chrome-fans-1832040696)

B.) As mentioned by others, switch off of Chrome

In either case, as mentioned by others, switch your search provider to [duckduckgo.com](https://duckduckgo.com) as [google.com](https://google.com) is infested with this racist garbage also.

  32. I opened Google and saw “search for black owned businesses near you”. Really? Let’s see…I’m calling an electrician: “Mr. Smith, I need to get some electrical work done, but before we start the conversation, what color are you? According to Google you are black. Are you black, because I’m looking for a black contractor”.

Replace “black” with the race of your choice…

DDG has “bangs” so you can still search google by doing:
