I applied for a RoR job!

After leeching for almost 2 years, while learning and building own projects I applied for a REAL RoR job. I felt confident enough to do so. This is one of those rare companies who had a decent job description without requiring 5+ years experience with none existing language

Thanks u/rails community for your alwasy friendly help

Wish me luck!

UPDATE: just invited for an interview, coming wednesday

Raw copy paste of google translate of his response:

*Sufficient work experience is difficult to express in measurable terms, but with the projects that you sent you certainly meet that requirement. In any case, entrepreneurship outweighs work experience for us, and most developers like you started outside their current job. Me too, although at the same time I completed a HBO computer science.*

*I therefore consider your e-mail as an application and would like to invite you for an interview. Is it possible for you to come to us this Wednesday or Friday afternoon? And for the sake of completeness, can you send your CV along?*

  1. Gratz dude! 2 years is a solid timeframe to be preparing for this move. I’ve been at it for just over 5 months and already growing rather desperate. Kudos to you for the persistence!

  2. Congrats but also be aware of what you’re up against. Tech jobs are insidiously difficult to get into as a noobie (with or without a cs degree).

It’s quite common to get one interview for every 75+ applications or more. Remember though, With enough time and persistence, the stars will align and you will get hired.

On the flipside, experienced developers with a good resume often get calls daily/weekly from recruiters offering interviews/jobs which is equally stupid.

Tech hiring is broken and has been for years, but don’t let it discourage you. Very best of luck and keep at it.
