Is there still a way to bring back the old design?

Since the update of the UI in chrome I have switched to use the old one through chrome://flags/#top-chrome-md where there was the option to set the setting to normal but it looks like it has disappeared, is there some way to have the old design or do I have to use this horrendous flatshit UI?

  1. Downgraded to 70 for now. Will move to other browser if they give an option to use classic tabs designs.

Since I upgraded to 71, now chrome-70 complains about profile not being supported fully.

  2. I’ve been using Chrome as my primary browser for years and I don’t miss the old UI at all. I’m not really sure what’s wrong with the new one?

  3. No, thanks to whoever thought of the idea to get rid of this option! This new layout is like slow, and to whoever thought of it have you considered people who have slower computers or those who use older OSes?

  4. Just download version 70, and rename the google updater folder at “C:\Program Files (x86)\Google”. That is the last good version where the flag still works.

  5. Has anyone figured this out yet? Today they removed the “Normal” option for the “UI Layout for the browser’s top chrome” flag and now they’re forcing this BS on us and I hate it and I don’t want it and I need an option to change it back. Please for the love of god someone help me figure out how to get the old UI back. Is anyone working on a chrome store addon to revert this? I would if I knew how to program anything. There used to be a “Classic theme restorer” For firefox, surely someone can do this for chrome.

  6. Google is like God. You may complain or appeal to them via the infamous and useless “Menu > Help > Report” but they will not listen or do anything to address your prayers.

  7. I fucking HATE the new design. Makes me sick just looking at it. It’s the worst UI backstep I’ve ever seen. Functionally poorer, aesthetically it is a dumpster fire.

  8. Bumping an old thread as it’s a pretty top hit on a “change chrome look back” search

Had update services disabled, folders renamed, shit blocked in host files, registry edits, etc

I was pretty thorough about it when I nuked the new look last year

And they STILL managed to push the update through some how.

I uninstalled it and redid all the anti-update stuff, just letting you guys know there is still another way Google is pushing it through.

  9. They basically just say, “We feel bad for the old user who liked the old design better, we should let them have what they want.”. 1 month later they remove it like “SIKE!!!”

  10. As compared to the UGLY “Material Design Refresh” Chrome’s earlier look requires 7’000 extra LOC ??! Seriously? I can easily configure respective “old Chrome style” tabs in Firefox with a simple add-on CSS and in that crappy Google browser that’s impossible?! Well then, bye bye Google… (eventually it might be a good idea for Google to get some competent developers instead of the clowns that they seem to employ by default..)

  11. Haha that’s why I use firefox! Well, waterfox actually, the icon theme is nicer, still not the nicest, but meh.

There don’t seem to be any good looking browsers except edge, and arguably chrome does look sleek with the darker white as the window border on a mac and windows if its clean enough, otherwise, they’ve ruined it

  12. Do not fear, brothers and sisters! Just try the browser “Vivaldi”. Setting up everything takes a few minutes but it’s fully customizable, has mouse gestures, looks cool and is super fast.
